Bio

Oscar Edwin Avellaneda is a first generation immigrant from Bogota, Colombia who moved to Alaska at the age of three with his family. His photography career began when as child he set out with a Polaroid camera and the desire to create his own newspaper. After graduating from high school in 2002 he moved to southern California to work as an intern for Ken Hanson, where he learned the technical aspects of location lighting. Upon returning to Alaska in 2004 Oscar started his photography business Avé Photo. His images have been used in commercial and editorial publications, and was recently awarded the 2009 Alaska Press Club Award for his portrait of Willie Hensley. Oscar currently works part-time as an assistant to Clark James Mishler, and is a member of the Orion Collective.
